How do we translate our client’s values into specific investment criteria? Travis Korte breaks down how our pillars allow us to do just that.

Key Points:
- Simplifying Complex Values: Ethic helps clients translate broad values (like "women’s rights") into specific investment criteria through structured frameworks called pillars.
- Pillars as a Starting Point: These pillars cover key issues (e.g., health & wellness, climate change) and highlight factors clients may care about, such as hazardous waste or unsafe working conditions.
- Flexibility for Deeper Alignment: While pillars provide a solid foundation, clients can further customize their portfolios to better reflect their unique values and priorities.
When our clients ask us to craft a values-aligned portfolio, they might not always have the time or bandwidth to think deeply about what exact company behaviors they want to look out for. For example, a client may ask for a portfolio that supports equity for women. However, they might not necessarily be considering the negative economic impacts of for-profit colleges that disproportionately affect women. That’s where our pillars come into play.
Our pillars are our tools for communicating with clients the articulation of their values within their portfolios. On this episode of Just Ask Sustainability, Director of Sustainability Research Travis Korte explains the development of the pillars, how they support investors, and the level of detail we strive for.
What’s a Rich Text element?
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
Static and dynamic content editing
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
How to customize formatting for each rich text
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
