Part of our job at Ethic is to educate our clients on company behavior and its impact on how their values are reflected in their portfolios. Travis Korte explains our thinking on how long we allow past data to inform our opinion of a company on behalf of our clients.

Some Key Takeaways from Travis’ Insights:

Time Horizon for Controversies: There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer for how long a controversy should impact  a company’s placement in a client’s portfolio. Typically, data providers consider a 2- to 3-year window, after which a company’s past issues may no longer be factored into assessments, assuming no new issues arise.

Change Over Time: Companies can evolve by addressing their internal problems—such as leadership changes or policy reforms—which can lead to improved behavior over time. Therefore, it might be worthwhile for investors to re-evaluate companies once they’ve demonstrated sustained improvements.

Educating Clients on Ethical Metrics: Part of our sustainability team’s job is to educate clients on how and when past controversies should influence investment decisions. This involves understanding the nuances of various data provider methodologies and balancing historical events with current performance.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
