Ethic’s Director of Marketing Ben Goldman explains our approach to advisor education and how our newly renovated Education Hub seeks to support that audience.
Key Takeaways:
- Capitalizing on Opportunities: By helping align investments with values, advisors provide their clients a service that speaks to the highest levels of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs – fulfillment, potential, esteem, and legacy.
- Overcoming Barriers: Confidently addressing a client’s values and their relationship to investing can require a solid foundation of new learnings and skill sets.
- A New Suite of Resources: The revamped Education Hub offers advisors an evolving range of articles and videos designed to prepare them to take the values journey with their clients.
Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, introduced in 1943, is a popular system for categorizing human motivation. The central claim of the system is that people have different levels of needs, and only after satisfying lower needs, such as food and safety, are they able to fulfill higher needs, such as self-esteem and self-actualization. And key to satisfying these higher level needs, Maslow argued, is a sense of values.
“The human being needs a framework of values,” Maslow wrote, ”in about the same sense that he needs sunlight, calcium or love.”
The central importance of values to our lives and sense of fulfillment hints at the enormous opportunity for advisors offering values-aligned investing to their clients. However, the scale of the opportunity can also be the biggest challenge facing these advisors. Speaking confidently to a client’s values and their relationship to investing can require learning about new concepts, issues, data sources, and investment vehicles.
In our years of working with thousands of advisors, we’ve learned that closing this knowledge gap is one of the most effective ways to empower advisors and investors to undertake this journey together.
That’s why we’re excited to share our new and improved Education Hub, available today on the Ethic platform.
The Education Hub is a complete educational resource designed to help advisors learn and engage with their clients around values-aligned investing. From education on our 19 sustainability pillars to step-by-step walkthroughs of how to execute trades on the Ethic platform, the Education Hub provides a mixture of insightful, practical, and accessible content – all produced by Ethic’s in-house creative studio.
Some of the topics covered in our new Education Hub include:
- How values-aligned DAFs can help with charitable giving goals
- How to have the values conversation with your client
- How to create a delightful, personalized client journey
- How to use the Values Mapping Exercise with clients
- And much more
And because the wide world of sustainable investing is always evolving, so too is our content. The Education Hub is continuously updated with the latest features, news, and insights to keep you in the know – all to prepare advisors to take the values journey with their clients and help make values-aligned investing their strength.
The Education Hub is available today to all Ethic clients by logging into our platform. And if you have requests or feedback, always feel free to reach out.
What’s a Rich Text element?
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
Static and dynamic content editing
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
How to customize formatting for each rich text
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
